Sindhu's silver has fired up sport: Pullela Gopichand

Bengaluru: Bengaluru Blasters, the newly revamped franchise of the Premier Badminton League, on Thursday, unveiled their logo and plans going into the new season of the league. The team is co-owned by Sachin Tendulkar, actors Chiranjeevi, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Allu Aravind and Nimmagadda Prasad, the same consortium who own Indian Super League side Kerala Blasters.

Speaking at the event, badminton legend Pullela Gopichand said, “Badminton has done well for the last few years and after the Olympic silver this year, interest is at an all time high. We have 17 Olympic medallists participating in this season’s PBL, including world no. 1 Carolina Marin. “If you look at the league, this is by far the best in the world.

“We have big players here. I wish we had more players who we could take in the league,” he added. The Bengaluru franchise include world number four Viktor Axlesen, Boonsak Ponsana, Sourabh Verma, Porntip Buranaprasertsuk, Ruthvika Shivani Gadde, Pranaav Jerry Chopra, Sikki Reddy, Ko Sung Hyun, Yoo Yeon Seong and hometown girl Ashwini Ponnappa.
