Worker Safety is Key for Telangana, Says Dana Kishore

The National Safety Council (NSC) and department of factories have asked factories in the state to organise a week-long safety awareness campaign in the first week of March.

Hyderabad: M. Dana Kishore, principal secretary, labour, on Monday said that the safety of workers was of utmost importance for the state government and urged the factory managements to switch to self-regulation.

“Human as well as plant safety is important in achieving the goals of rising Telangana, 2047 as envisaged by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. Safety of workers should remain a priority as it is important for the development of industry, society, state and nation,” said Dana Kishore at a workshop on ‘safety awareness programme for chemical factories’.

The workshop was jointly organised by National Safety Council (NSC), Telangana chapter, in collaboration with the department of factories, Telangana on Monday at FTCCI in Red Hills. Around 120 delegates from various factories across Telangana participated in the programme.

The National Safety Council (NSC) and department of factories have asked factories in the state to organise a week-long safety awareness campaign in the first week of March. The campaign would emphasise on workers safety at factories and underline the importance of self-regulation at factories.

Underlining the need of upgrading safety measures, the secretary said that a small investment would enhance not only safety mechanisms but also ensure an increase in productivity while ensuring wellbeing of human resources. He stressed the need for upgrading the skills of the workers in factories and other sections for future contribution to Telangana's development.

Y. Mohan Babu, director of factories, said his department has conducted training programmes continuously and December. Five training programmes at different parts of the state to increase the awareness of safety in both workers and management level were conducted. He stressed the need for safe handling of materials and safe maintenance of equipment and requested the participants to further train the workers working under them.
