Woman, Son Killed In Highway Crash
The truck overturned after the collision, blocking the highway. Its driver also sustained injuries and was shifted to a hospital in Khammam.
Nalgonda: A woman and her teenage son, who were headed to Hyderabad for his college admission, were killed a truck collided with their car on the Dhamsalapur bridge on the new Khammam–Devarapalli National Highway in Khammam district on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Pokabathini Sujatha and her 17-year-old son, residents of Gandhinagar in Chintakani mandal.
Sujatha and the teen died on the spot, while her husband Narsimha Rao sustained serious injuries and was shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Police suspected that speeding and negligent driving by the truck driver could have caused the accident. A case has been registered and an investigation is under way.
The Khammam–Devarapalli Greenfield National Highway was opened to traffic on August 1 ahead of its official inauguration. Sources said the road had been opened to vehicles about two weeks earlier but was temporarily closed following a series of accidents to complete the installation of caution boards and reflective road safety markers.
Khammam Rural police cleared the damaged vehicles using a crane. The bodies of Sujatha and her son were shifted to the Government General Hospital, Khammam, for post-mortem examination.
