Woman Ragpicker Elected Ward Member In Bhadradri-Kothagudem

NALGONDA: A woman ragpicker was elected as a ward member from Rudrampur village in Chunchupally mandal of Bhadradri-Kothagudem district during the second phase of the gram panchayat elections.

Sriramula Triveni and her husband had been earning their livelihood through ragpicking. The BRS supported Triveni’s candidature for the 11th ward of Rudrampur gram panchayat, which was reserved for Scheduled Tribes. A local BRS leader encouraged her to file her nomination.

Triveni won the election as ward member of the 11th ward with 137 votes, defeating her nearest rival. Speaking after her victory, Triveni said she was familiar with the issues in the ward as she moved around the village daily. She pledged to work towards resolving the problems faced by residents of the ward.
