Police suspect previous enmity involving known persons of Meena Devi may have led to the crime.

Update: 2026-05-31 20:24 GMT

Four unidentified assailants dragged a woman into the bushes and cut her throat killing her on the spot in front of her husband in IDA Bolaram police limits of Sangareddy district late Saturday night.

Police said the couple, Anil Kumar, 37 and Meena Devi, 35, natives of Bihar, were returning home to Venkateshwara Colony after buying vegetables at Shanthakulam when their bike broke down near Gandigudem sports complex around 9.30 pm.

In the darkness, the armed men who had been hiding in the bushes intercepted the bike. Two of them restrained Anil while the others pulled Meena Devi into the thickets. Despite her cries for help, one assailant held her hands while another killed her.

Anil, who tried to resist, was also attacked with daggers. The assailants then fled on bikes with their headlamps switched off, escaping through a side road near the sports complex.

“We suspect it is a pre‑planned murder. The injured Anil has been shifted to a private hospital and his statement recorded. Two special teams have been formed to trace and arrest the assailants,” a police officer said.

Investigators disclosed that the couple had moved to the city a few years ago, with Anil working as a contractor in a roller mill. Police suspect previous enmity involving known persons of Meena Devi may have led to the crime.

A case of murder and attempt to murder has been registered. The victim’s body was shifted to Sangareddy government hospital for post‑mortem. “Due to lack of CCTV cameras, investigation is being conducted using human intelligence and scientific evidence,” said Moola Ravinder Reddy, SHO, IDA Bolaram police station.

Realtor family dupes woman of ₹10 crore in investment fraud

A Hyderabad-based real estate and construction business family allegedly cheated investors of nearly ₹10 crore by promising monthly returns of four per cent on deposits through their ventures, police said.

The Cyberabad Economic Offences Wing (EOW) registered a case against Boddula Vani, her husband Boddula Vijay, mother-in-law Boddula Bala Mani and others following a complaint by a 38-year-old homemaker from Manikonda.

Police said the accused, who were engaged in real estate and construction activities and ran ASR Heights Private Limited, projected themselves as successful developers handling major construction projects and sought large investments by assuring attractive monthly returns.

According to the complaint, the accused persuaded the woman, her relatives, friends and several others to invest money in their ventures. After her husband's death, they allegedly convinced her to invest larger sums by claiming the returns would provide financial support to her family.

The complainant alleged that between 2022 and 2024, she transferred and handed over about `10 crore through bank transfers and cash transactions. The accused allegedly paid partial returns of around `2.25 crore initially before stopping repayments.

When she sought the return of her money, the accused allegedly threatened, intimidated and harassed her. She also alleged that she was wrongfully confined during a confrontation at the accused's residence in April 2025 and that her mobile phone was damaged to prevent her from recording the incident.

The complainant submitted bank records, promissory notes, audio and video recordings, and other financial documents in support of her allegations.

Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 5 of the Telangana State Protection of Depositors of Financial Establishments Act, 1999. An investigation is underway to verify the financial transactions, identify other possible victims and examine the allegations.

Mastermind held in Gandipet fake GO land case

Cyberabad police arrested alleged mastermind Veladi Radhakrishna, 53, and his driver Gyara Praveen Kumar, 34, in a fake government order (GO) and illegal land transaction case involving government land at Gandipet, police said.

Serilingampally DCP Ch. Srinivas said Narsingi police identified the accused and arrested them in connection with conspiracy, forgery and illegal land dealings. Three persons from Gandipet village had been arrested earlier in the case.

Police said Radhakrishna had worked as an outsourcing employee in the Information Technology and Communication department in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh Secretariat between 2006 and 2009. He later allegedly posed as a deputy collector and advocate, promising jobs, land regularisation, pattadar passbooks and official permissions.

Several cheating, forgery and criminal breach of trust cases had earlier been registered against him in Karimnagar, Rajendranagar, Neredmet, Godavarikhani, Moinabad and Kurnool districts, police said.

Investigators alleged that Radhakrishna shifted to land fraud and contacted persons claiming ownership over government poramboke land in Survey No. 18 of Gandipet village under Narsingi police station limits. Though the land belonged to the government, he allegedly assured buyers that regularisation, succession and permissions could be obtained.

Police alleged that fake GOs, fabricated CCLA proceedings, forged no-objection certificates and official letters bearing forged signatures of senior officials were created to make the documents appear genuine. Financial transactions worth nearly ₹12 crore allegedly took place as part of the conspiracy.

Police seized fabricated government documents, five laptops, 12 cheque books, 13 stamps, seven bank passbooks, 10 ATM cards and 31 land-related documents from the accused. Further investigation is on to arrest the absconding accused and trace the financial trail.
