Warangal: A woman member of the banned CPI (Maoist) party voluntarily surrendered before Superintendent of Police Sabarish in Mulugu district on Monday.
Addressing the media, SP Sabarish said the surrendered Maoist was identified as Madavi Somi, 30, a resident of Kondre village in Sukma district, Chhattisgarh. She served as a Party Platoon Committee Member (PPCM) in the 2nd CRC of the CPI (Maoist). She was immediately provided with a cheque of ₹25,000 under the rehabilitation financial assistance scheme.
The SP noted that her surrender was largely influenced by the Mulugu police’s outreach programme ‘Poru Kanna Ooru Minna – Mana Ooriki Thirigi Randi’, which focuses on the welfare and development of Adivasi communities, along with the rehabilitation initiatives offered by the Telangana government.
He added that many grassroots cadres are becoming disillusioned with Maoist leadership and are choosing to lead peaceful lives with their families. The police continue to appeal to Maoist members through media campaigns and family counselling sessions, urging them to return to the mainstream.
SP Sabarish further stated that the Telangana government has one of the most comprehensive surrender and rehabilitation policies in the country, offering financial rewards, medical care, and reintegration support. Since January, a total of 85 Maoist members have surrendered in Mulugu district alone, significantly weakening the organisation, he said.
