Woman Cheats Man Of Rs 20 Lakh In Matrimony Scam
According to police, the victim and the woman had been in contact for some time after connecting online. Gaining his trust by promising marriage, the woman allegedly persuaded him to transfer money on various occasions, amounting to ₹10 lakh, claiming it was needed to construct a house where they would live after marriage.
WARANGAL: A 30-year-old man from Wardhannapet mandal in Warangal district was allegedly cheated of ₹20 lakh by a woman he met through a matrimonial website. He lodged a complaint with the local police on Thursday, following which a fraud case was registered against the woman, who hails from Jayashankar Bhupalpally district.
According to police, the victim and the woman had been in contact for some time after connecting online. Gaining his trust by promising marriage, the woman allegedly persuaded him to transfer money on various occasions, amounting to ₹10 lakh, claiming it was needed to construct a house where they would live after marriage.
The fraud came to light when the woman started to avoid his phone calls and refused to discuss marriage plans. Suspecting foul play, the victim made inquiries and discovered that the woman was already married and has a daughter. He also learnt that she was allegedly involved in similar fraudulent activities after separating from her husband.
Realising he had been cheated, the victim approached the Wardhannapet police. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway to trace the accused, who is currently absconding.
Police have advised the public to exercise caution while interacting with individuals on matrimonial websites and to verify personal credentials before making any financial transactions.
