Will Fulfil 2 Lakh Jobs Promise, 1.3 Lakh Recruitments in Next Two Years: CM Revanth Reddy
Over 70,000 jobs filled in three years; 1.3 lakh more promised in two years
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said the Congress government would fulfil its promise of providing two lakh jobs in various departments during its tenure, asserting that more than 70,000 vacancies had been filled in the last three years and 1.3 lakh persons would be recruited in the next two years.
He asked ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and cadre to take the government's employment record to graduates and mobilise their support for the party in the upcoming graduate elections to the Legislative Council for the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahbubnagar (HRM) and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda (WKN) constituencies.
Revanth Reddy was speaking at a meeting with ministers and senior Congress leaders in Delhi on Tuesday, held to discuss the party's strategy for the polls. According to party sources, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that the Congress would win both seats comfortably and stressed the need to focus on enrolment of graduates and outreach well ahead of the elections.
The Chief Minister said the Congress had the advantage of making an early start in the electoral battle, having announced its candidates — Sama Rammohan Reddy the HRM constituency and Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy for WKN — more than 15 days ago, while the opposition BRS and BJP were still struggling to finalise their nominees.
He placed the responsibility for ensuring the victory of Congress candidates on ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs from the respective districts and asked them to prioritise voter enrolment. He called for large-scale enrolment of eligible graduates, to substantially increase the number of registered voters compared with the 2015 and 2021 graduate MLC elections.
Revanth Reddy directed party leaders to organise outreach programmes in their respective constituencies and conduct 'atmeeya sammelanams' (interaction meetings) with graduates in coordination with the Congress candidates. He emphasised the need to explain the Congress government's initiatives, particularly its efforts to provide employment, and establish direct contact with the electorate.
Highlighting the Congress government's performance on providing jobs, the Chief Minister said it had completed the Group-I recruitment process in Telangana after 13 years, with the previous BRS government failing to conduct even a single Group-I recruitment process during its 10-year tenure. He also cited the completion of the DSC teacher recruitment drive to fill more than 10,000 posts in a record period of less than two months as evidence of the government's commitment to providing employment.
The Chief Minister said the promise of filling two lakh government jobs would be fulfilled within the government's five-year tenure, with recruitment for the remaining vacancies to be completed during the next two years. He asked party leaders to communicate these achievements to graduates and counter the opposition's criticism with facts about the government's recruitment initiatives.
Revanth Reddy said the graduate elections carried considerable political significance for the Congress and that winning both seats was important to demonstrate the party's continued dominance in Telangana politics ahead of the crucial Assembly elections scheduled for the end of 2028. The outcome of the polls would also provide an opportunity for the party to consolidate its support among educated voters.
The Chief Minister has been camping in Delhi since Sunday to participate in protest programmes organised by the I,N,D,I,A, bloc against the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. On Tuesday, he also attended a meeting of I.N.D.I.A. bloc leaders hosted by party leader Rahul Gandhi, along with Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
Revanth Reddy, along with ministers and senior Congress leaders, returned to Hyderabad on Tuesday night.
