NALGONDA: Roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Monday said the people of the State were backing the Congress in the ongoing gram panchayat elections.
Elected sarpanches from gram panchayats in Kanagal mandal of Nalgonda district met Venkat Reddy at his residence in Hyderabad.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the verdict in the gram panchayat elections was a slap in the face of Opposition leaders who, he alleged, were criticising the State government for political reasons. He said people had rejected what he described as baseless allegations levelled by the BRS and BJP against the Congress government and were supporting the Congress in the panchayat elections in view of its welfare schemes and development programmes.
Venkat Reddy said the Congress government had won the trust of the people through welfare initiatives such as the Indiramma housing scheme, issuance of new ration cards, supply of fine rice to ration card holders, a ₹500 bonus per quintal for farmers cultivating fine rice varieties, and free travel for women in TGSRTC buses. He added that the government was also according top priority to the education and health sectors with the aim of ensuring quality education and accessible healthcare services for the poor.
He expressed confidence that the Congress would remain in power in Telangana for another 10 years, stating that the State was witnessing progress across sectors under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
