Hyderabad: The weekend holidays coupled with a government holiday on the eve of Republic Day on January 26 prompted several families to go on vacation, especially beaches in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

After enjoying holidays with their family members and friends at their native places in two Telugu States during Sankranti celebrations, the families decided to avail the opportunity of consecutive holidays starting from January 24 to 26 to visit the tourist place of their choice.

A majority of families already left for their favourite destination on Friday night depending upon their choice of transportation. While a few family members preferred to travel in their car, others opted to utilize either a train or bus service.

According to tour operators, most of them preferred to visit beaches in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka to spend quality time. The beaches in Visakhapatnam and its surroundings, Suryalanka beach in Bapatla and Vodarevu beach, which is also called as Chirala beach in Guntur district among the popular spots preferred by tourists.

“To effectively utilize the holidays, we have decided to visit Chirala beach with our family by road in our car,” said a doctor K Satish from Khammam Town.

A few families headed to Gokarna, Muredeshwar and Udupi among other popular places in Karnataka. Apart from beaches and other popular spots in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, a large number of families are visiting water bodies, farmhouses and religious places in their cars in Telangana.

Kondapochammasagar and Ranganayakasagar reservoirs in Medak district, Anantagiri hills in Vikarabad, and Yadagirigutta in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district and other places were opted by families to visit during the next three days.

Another major destination intended to be visited by the families is Medaram in Mulugu district even before the commencement of Sammakka-Saralamma jathara on January 28 to avoid rush. The ongoing Komuravelli Mallanna jathara in Siddipet is another place where a large number of people from twin cities started visiting it last Sunday onwards.

“Like every year, we want to take part in Komuravelli Mallanna jathara with our families this time as well,” said a businessman K Akash Yadav from Langer Houz. A group of friends led by a pediatrician from West Marredpally planned to visit a farmhouse in Siddipet on Sunday and Monday.
