Warangal: The Congress government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is committed to transforming Warangal into Telangana’s second major city on par with Hyderabad, endowments minister Konda Surekha said on Thursday.
The minister, accompanied by Mayor Gundu Sudharani, district collector Satya Sharada, and GWMC commissioner Chahat Bajpai, laid the foundation stone for several developmental works worth ₹5.87 crore in the Warangal East Assembly constituency. Outlining the government’s vision, she said Warangal would be developed comprehensively, with major projects such as the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park and Mamnoor Airport set to commence soon. Permanent measures, including the launch of an underground drainage project, are also being taken to prevent flooding in the city, she added.
Later, Konda Surekha served mid-day meals to students at Beerannakunta Government School. She said the scheme, aimed at providing nutritious food, is being implemented in 123 government schools in the first phase and will gradually be extended to all government schools across the state.
At a public meeting organised for the distribution of new ration cards, the minister said the Congress government was fulfilling its long-standing promise of issuing new ration cards. She noted that, unlike the previous BRS government which supplied coarse rice, the Congress government is providing fine rice through ration shops. Beneficiaries of new ration cards will also be immediately included in government welfare schemes, she assured.
On the Indiramma housing scheme, Surekha said 3,500 houses have already been allotted to eligible families in Warangal East constituency, and another 3,500 will be sanctioned later this year in the next phase.
