KARIMNAGAR: A group of students from Warangal district fought back against a gang of intoxicated youths who attacked them and their tourist bus. The incident occurred at a petrol pump near Dharmaram in Jagtial district and triggered outrage after a video of the episode circulated on social media, showing the attackers allegedly under the influence of alcohol and suspected ganja consumption.
The students were on an educational tour when their bus stopped at the petrol pump for refuelling. At that time, a group of youths, who were reportedly creating trouble with passersby on the highway, targeted the bus.
Eyewitnesses said the youths abused the bus driver and behaved indecently in front of girl students. The situation quickly escalated as the attackers created a ruckus and tried to pelt stones at the bus, causing panic among the students.
Refusing to be intimidated, the students acted collectively and confronted the attackers, forcing them to retreat and flee from the spot.
The entire incident, including the attack and the students’ resistance, was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the petrol pump. Following the incident, the educational institution’s management and the petrol pump owner lodged a complaint with the police.
Police registered a case and launched an investigation. CCTV footage has been collected and efforts are underway to identify the accused. Parents of the students and local residents have demanded strict action against the culprits to prevent such alcohol- and drug-related violence in public places.
The incident has also renewed concerns over the growing influence of alcohol and ganja among youth in the region. Locals have called for increased police patrolling near highways and petrol bunks to ensure the safety of travellers and students.
