Warangal: Man Gets 10 Years Jail For Attempt To Kill Wife, Son

WARANGAL: A 42-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹5,000 after being found guilty of trying to murder his wife and son with an axe while under the influence of alcohol. The verdict was delivered by Assistant Sessions Judge A. Nagaraju in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district on Thursday.

The accused, Martha Rajesh of Rajiv Nagar Colony, was known to be addicted to alcohol and frequently abused his wife and children. The incident occurred on March 13, 2023, when he returned home intoxicated. After his wife, Martha Rama, 38, reprimanded him for his drinking habit, Rajesh tried to kill her and their 15-year-old son by attacking them with an axe.

The case was registered based on a complaint filed by his brother-in-law, Velpula Shravan. The then Bhupalpally sub-inspector, B. Ramakrishna, arrested the accused and filed a chargesheet with sufficient evidence.

During the trial, Additional Public Prosecutor Md. Rafi presented the arguments, while ASI G. Venkanna, the liaison officer, and Court police constable A. Lavanya effectively handled the examination of witnesses. With the crime clearly established during the investigation, the court delivered the conviction.

Police superintendent Sirisetti Sankeerth appreciated the efforts of the investigating officer, current Bhupalpally SHO Naresh Kumar, liaison officer ASI Venkanna, and CDO Lavanya for ensuring the conviction.
