Hyderabad: The Telangana Waqf Board announced the release of Rs. 1 crore-grant to support Muharram observances across the state. The board said that the funds will help religious and community activities organised during the holy month.

According to the Board, grants had been sanctioned and released to 959 institutions across Telangana. These include 735 ashoorkhanas, 63 anjumans and 161 sabeels.

The board stated that the financial assistance is aimed at ensuring smooth and dignified Muharram observances. The amount released this year is double the `50 lakh provided last year. Additionally, `15 lakh had been spent on procuring an elephant for the historic Bibi-ka-Alam procession.

Telangana Waqf Board Chairman Syed Azmatullah Husseni expressed his gratitude to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Minority Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin for their continued support towards the welfare of the Muslim community.
