Adilabad: The endowments department is planning to beautify the Vyasa Maharshi Guha at Basar as part of a ₹225 crore master plan to develop the temple.

The cave, located within a natural rock formation adjacent to the Saraswati temple, is a key attraction for devotees. Officials said the works will be taken up without disturbing the existing structure.

Executive officer Katta Anjani Devi said devotees believe the cave is associated with sage Vyasa Maharshi and regard it as a place of spiritual significance. “Many devotees also believe that Vyasa Maharshi gave pranaprathista to the Goddess Saraswati with a fistful of Godavari, and he used to bring it after taking a bath,” she said.

She added that only one or two devotees can enter the cave at a time due to space constraints.

The authorities said devotees are allowed to visit the cave during temple hours, where they spend time in prayer.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had laid the foundation stone for the ₹225 crore development works at Basar temple on April 6.

Temple authorities also conduct ‘Guru Pournami’ or ‘Vyasa Pournami’ celebrations at the premises, with participation from children and parents.

A devotee, S. Praveen from Kubeer mandal, said he had visited the cave multiple times and experienced a sense of positive energy while spending time there.
