Rajanna Sircilla: In a bizarre incident reported from the temple town of Vemulawada, family members had delayed the funeral of an elderly man for three days due to a property dispute. The last rites of the 80-year-old were finally conducted after the Police intervened on Wednesday night and ensured that the rites were completed.

As per reports, Konkati Chandraiah, 80, a resident of Konayapalli, died of illness on Monday night, and instead of arranging the funeral, his family members began quarrelling over his assets. Chandraiah is survived by a son’s family and three daughters. His son, Nagaraju, died about ten years ago. Nagaraju had two wives. The first wife has a son, and the second has two daughters. Chandraiah owned one and a half acres of agricultural land and a house. About three years ago, he had registered the house in his daughters’ names.
After his death, Nagaraju’s second wife and her daughters demanded a share of the property, leading to a quarrel among the family members. Several village elders tried to mediate and persuade the family to proceed with the last rites which did not work out. Finally, when the neighbours called the police, who intervened, they completed the funeral.
