WARANGAL: Vehicles displaying political designations, party names, and MLA stickers instead of registration numbers are raising concerns over violation of traffic rules in Warangal city.

Some motorists are also using sirens though they are not entitled to them.

A vehicle moving around the city without a number plate displaying only a board reading “District Youth President” has drawn attention to the issue. This raises issues of compliance with the rule that there be clearly visible registration numbers.

In addition, such vehicles are prompting questions whether vehicles associated with political figures are not subject to rules when compared to other vehicles.

Apart from misuse of number plates and sirens, there are motorists who have modified their silencers to produce excessive noise. This causes inconvenience to other road users, particularly senior citizens, patients and children.

Police have previously taken action against modified silencers, including destroying them with bulldozers. But such violations continue to recur.

Warangal traffic ACP Teerthala Satyanarayana said driving a vehicle without a number plate is an offence under the Motor Vehicles Act. Police would impose fines and initiate legal action against such vehicles. Action is also being taken against vehicles using police sirens without authorisation.

The ACP said complaints against such vehicles are being investigated and challans issued. He warned against displaying names, designations, or other lettering on number plates in a way that prominence of registration details is lost.

He underlined that obscuring identification details on a High-Security Registration Plate, as mandated by the Transport department, is a violation.

Satyanarayana warned that such vehicles would be seized if motorists continued to violate the rules after being fined twice.
