Uppal-Jammikunta ROB Works Gather Pace
Railway officials have completed a crucial phase of the project, the installation of the girders, in Karimnagar district: Reports
KARIMNAGAR: The long-delayed construction of the Uppal Road Over Bridge (ROB) in Jammikunta has moved forward after the intervention of Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar. Railway officials have completed a crucial phase of the project, the installation of the girders, in Karimnagar district.
The girder installation had been a major obstacle because it required a several-hour block of all train services on the line. In addition, a special crane, unavailable in Telangana, had to be brought from Chennai, causing repeated delays.
Recently, Sanjay Kumar met railway officials, expressed frustration over the decade-long delay, and warned publicly that he would personally demolish the incomplete structure if work did not finish within a month.
Following this, officials explained that the core challenge was the girder installation, which required the special crane and a service block. The minister then spoke with the general manager and additional general manager of South-Central Railway, directing them to mobilise the crane from Chennai and expedite the installation.
Acting on these directions, railway officials brought the crane from Chennai, suspended train services for about three and a half hours, and used two cranes to successfully install the girders. With this key phase complete, officials said the remaining work will be finished quickly and the Uppal ROB will be opened to the public by the end of August.
