Hyderabad: Three scholars and alumni from the University of Hyderabad’s Department of Dance have been selected for the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2024-25, one of the country’s national honours for young practitioners and researchers in the performing arts.
The awardees are Ajay Srinivas Chakravarthy, a Master of Performing Arts graduate and current research scholar; Satwika Penna, a classical dancer and research scholar in the department; and Akash Mallick, a performing artiste from the department’s 2013 graduating batch. Conferred by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, the award recognises young artistes, performers and researchers for their contribution to the performing arts.
The achievement is notable as all three recipients are associated with the University of Hyderabad’s Department of Dance under the Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication, bringing national recognition to the department in a single awards cycle.
UoH said the awards reflect the department’s emphasis on both performance and academic research in dance. Congratulating the recipients, Prof. J. The university noted that the honour places the three recipients among the country’s recognised young talents in the performing arts and adds to the institution’s presence in the fields of dance research and performance. The Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar is regarded as one of India’s prominent national recognitions for emerging artistes and researchers across various performing art disciplines.
