Two Women From Telangana Die in Road Accident in US

The victims, Meghana Rani and K Bhavana, both aged 24, died in a car accident in Bishop city of California

Hyderabad: Two Mahbubabad-based women, who had completed their graduation in the US and were looking for job opportunities, died in a car accident in California early on Sunday. Pullakhandam Meghana Rani and Kadiyala Bhavana Chowdary, both 24, from Garla and Mulkanoor respectively, died after their car overturned near California’s ‘Death Valley’.

Bhavana is the daughter of Mulkanoor’s deputy sarpanch Koteshwara Rao, while Meghana’s father Nageswara Rao operates a MeeSeva centre in Garla. Both friends completed their graduation from the University of Dayton in Ohio in June of 2024, and were on the hunt for employment.

Inyo county sheriff’s office and first responders' records state that the car rolled over and was a high-severity crash, with the occupants of the car having to be ejected out of the vehicle. First responders received a call of the accident on December 28 at 12.02 pm local time (December 29, 1.30 am IST), and reached the accident site in seven minutes.

Reports stated that Meghana and Bhavana, along with six other people were out on an excursion in two cars, with four people in each car. First responder information showed that the accident occurred on SR-190 and Saline Valley Road, near the Death Valley national park. The name of the park refers to its inhospitable conditions.

Family members of both the deceased have started GoFundMe pages to raise money for the funeral expenses and final rites. Meghana’s brother Venkatesh Gupta, on the GoFundMe page, wrote “She was a kind, vibrant soul who always put others first. Her sudden departure has left a void in our lives that can never be filled.”

The Inyo county sheriff’s office and authorities are investigating the accident, and refused to share further information about the accident. Meanwhile, family members of both Meghana and Bhavana requested the state government and the Centre to help repatriate their bodies back home for final rites.
