Warangal: Two persons were killed on the spot when a sand-laden lorry collided with their car near Kondaparthi on the Pasra–Tadvai road in Mulugu district on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Kalakotla Surekha, 40, of Peddammagadda in Hanamkonda, and Chinta Vijayababu, 45, of Bhadradri Kothagudem district. Both reportedly working in the agriculture market department in Mahabubabad district.

According to the police, Surekha and Vijayababu were travelling from Hanamkonda to Eturnagaram via Pasra and Tadvai to meet a relative of one of them. At around 10.30 am, after crossing Pasra, their car was hit by an oncoming sand-laden lorry near Kondaparthi. Both occupants sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot, while the impact severely damaged the car.

Based on a complaint lodged by Surekha’s sister, Kalakotla Harika, Tadvai police registered a case againt the lorry driver and launched an investigation. According to the preliminary investigation, the police suspect that rash and negligent driving and excessive speed by the lorry driver may have caused the accident.

Tadvai Sub-Inspector Jagadish said further details would be known after completion of the investigation.

Surekha had reportedly lost her husband and, more recently, her son in separate road accidents.
