Hyderabad:Abdullapurmet police arrested two persons and recovered a four‑tola gold chain stolen from a 71‑year‑old woman, E. Mangamma, at Kothagudem.

According to a complaint lodged by her family, two men visited Mangamma’s house and offered her a drink. After consuming it, she fell asleep. When her family returned, she realised that the gold chain she had been wearing was missing.

Acting on credible information, police arrested G. Harish, 25, a driver, and Venkatesh, 55, a farmer, both residents of Thippaigudem in Manchal mandal. The stolen chain was reportedly recovered from their possession. Police said investigations were underway to determine whether the duo was involved in similar offences. ENDS


BJP Chief Recalls Netaji’s Sacrifices

Hyderabad:Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao hailed Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as an enduring inspiration for Indian youth, highlighting his sacrifices, determination and patriotism during Parakram Diwas commemorations marking the freedom fighter’s 129th birth anniversary.

Speaking after unveiling a statue of Netaji in Kukatpally and offering floral tributes, Rao stressed the need to study Bose’s life and ideals to strengthen national service. He described Bose as a pre‑eminent leader of the independence movement who mobilised youth and spearheaded the Azad Hind Fauj’s military campaign for freedom.

Recalling key historical moments, Rao noted that on December 30, 1943, Bose hoisted the Tricolour in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, declaring Indian independence and embodying timeless courage.

Later, Rao garlanded Netaji’s portrait at the state BJP office, where senior party leaders and activists also paid homage.

 Rs 78,000 burgled from Kirana shop

Hyderabad:Unidentified persons burgled ₹78,000 in cash from a kirana store at Kuntloor after it was closed for the night on Thursday, Hayathnagar police said.

The shop, owned by Kengiri Mallesh, was found ransacked early Friday when his son Pavan visited around 4.40 am and noticed a window open. He alerted his father, who discovered that ₹78,000 kept in the counter was missing.

On checking CCTV footage, the family found a woman from the same locality leaving the shop premises. Police have registered a case and begun investigations. ENDS


Devotee hurt after digital board collapses

Hyderabad:A name board with digital lights fixed to a welcome arch collapsed at Haritha Y Junction in Medaram, Mulugu district, around noon on Friday, injuring a devotee. He was shifted to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

The incident occurred on the road from Jampanna Vaagu to the Gaddelu (altars), a key pilgrim route, even as arrangements are underway for the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara scheduled to begin on January 28.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse amid allegations of negligence and inadequate safety measures. Mulugu district SP K. Sudheer Ramnath is reviewing CCTV footage as part of the probe.
