Two-Day Rain Boosts Water Levels In Karimnagar Projects

While several small tanks and ponds are yet to fill completely, Yellampally, Mid Manair and Upper Manair reservoirs have received good inflows.

Yellampally project is receiving around 13,000 cusecs, with 12,600 cusecs being lifted through four motors at the Nandi and Gayatri pump houses. The project currently has around 18 tmc ft of water against its capacity of 20.175 tmc ft.

Water from Yellampally is being diverted to Mid Manair through the flood flow canal. Irrigation officials said around 11 tmc ft had so far been lifted from Yellampally.

Mid Manair reservoir has also recorded a significant rise in storage. Its water level has reached 21.334 tmc ft against its full storage capacity of 27.55 tmc ft. The reservoir is receiving 15,411 cusecs, including 12,600 cusecs from the Gayatri pump house and 2,811 cusecs from its catchment area.

With storage improving, officials have started releasing water from Mid Manair into Lower Manair Dam (LMD). Around 5,000 cusecs is being released into LMD through three flood gates.

LMD storage has risen to around 6.5 tmc ft from 5.5 tmc ft three days ago. Its full storage capacity is 24 tmc ft. The reservoir is also receiving around 850 cusecs from its catchment area.

Upper Manair reservoir, with a capacity of around 2 tmc ft, is overflowing. It is located near Narmala in Gambhiraopet mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district.

Officials said the recent rainfall had provided some relief after the region received little rain during the first two months of the monsoon. The improved inflows are expected to support water management and irrigation requirements in the region.
