Hyderabad: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Hyderabad police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar probing into unauthorised phone-tapping cases issued notices to BRS MLC Naveen Rao's father Kondala Rao and BRS MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao's son Sandeep Rao.
During its investigation, the reinforced SIT found that the phones of Kondala Rao and Sandeep had been tapped. The notices state that they should come to the office in Jubilee Hills to record the details, police said.
On January 4 , the case moved into a critical phase when BRS MLC K. Naveen Rao was grilled after his name was disclosed by the prime accused T. Prabhakar Rao, along with his then-subordinates, including former ASPs N. Bhujanga Rao and M. Thirupathanna, and retired Task Force DCP B Radha Kishan Rao.
During last questioning on January 4, Naveen Rao revealed before SIT that he acted as a key conduit between the technical surveillance teams and top-tier BRS leaders during the party's tenure, police sources disclosed.
The SIT collected technical and physical evidence of Naveen maintaining private electronic devices at his city residence to facilitate unauthorised phone tapping operations. The investigators also retrieved data from a crucial pen drive and other digital forensic data that allegedly indicated Naveen Rao as a vital link in unmasking the political beneficiaries of the espionage ring.
The probe, which is being fast-tracked by a recently reconstituted nine-member SIT under the direct supervision of Hyderabad police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, is working against an early 2026 deadline to file a supplementary charge sheet.
The investigation is now shifting its focus from the technical execution of the tapping to the political masterminds who allegedly authorised the surveillance of judges, businessmen, and opposition politicians, sources disclosed.
Recently SIT questioned former high-ranking bureaucrats, including ex-Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and former Intelligence Chief Naveen Chand, who were previously questioned as witnesses.
Forensic analysis of recovered hardware is expected to establish a direct chain of command leading from the SIB’s "war-room" to the highest political offices of the previous regime. It is reported that the MLA's kins will appear for questioning today or on Thursday.
