Hyderabad: Two-year-old twin brothers lost their lives in a fire that broke out at their residence in Sunder Nagar, Kacheguda, on Friday evening. Police suspect a short circuit in an air-conditioner or electrical wiring may have triggered the blaze.
According to officials, the twins, Raheem and Rehman, were asleep in a ground-floor room when the fire erupted around 4 pm. Their father, Saifuddin Qadri, who works at a local mosque, was not at home at the time. The children’s mother was reportedly outside and rushed in after being alerted by their elder siblings.
“One child died on the spot, while the other was shifted to Osmania General Hospital, where he later succumbed,” said a senior officer from the Kacheguda police station. He added that the exact cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed.
The family has two other children, both around five years old. Relatives and local residents informed police that the fire may have originated from the air-conditioner, though officials said this would be established only after forensic examination.
A team from the Hyderabad police’s Clues unit visited the scene, collected samples, and sent them to the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory (TGFSL). “Once the FSL report is received, the precise cause of the fire will be known,” the officer said.
A fire tender from the Gowliguda fire station was dispatched following an emergency call, but residents had already extinguished the flames by the time it arrived. Police have registered a case and further investigation is ongoing.
