Hyderabad: State agriculture minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao said that the state government is gearing up to increase laboratories for testing pesticides from the present two by adding another two or three centres. This he stated will help in testing more samples and rein in fake pesticides.
The minister made the remarks responding to the accolades from members of the agro chemicals association, Delhi, who called on him on Monday. “The existing two labs have a capacity to conduct do 4,000 tests. The government is committed to make available quality pesticides for farmers. Officials should keep a record of the monthly sale of pesticides by every dealer and the stock that has come to him on the website.”
The minister asked the association members to work in tandem with the agriculture department to control indiscriminate use of pesticides. He informed that the government will consider establishing a testing centre in collaboration with private entities. The
PD Act will be invoked against fake pesticide sellers, he said.
In a release the minister congratulated the warehousing corporation managing director Kova Lakshmi and officials on receiving the prestigious SKOTCH Silver award at the national level. The award has been given recognizing the full digitalisation of the godowns by the corporation. This he stated helped in speeding up the work of the corporation.
