Nalgonda: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Monday stressed the need to ensure quality in development works so that future generations benefit from them.

He laid the foundation stone for CC road and drainage works taken up at a cost of ₹97 lakh under the Stambhadri Urban Development Authority (Suda) at V.V. Palem in Raghunathapalem mandal of Khammam district. He also inaugurated a veterinary hospital building constructed at a cost of ₹30 lakh in the village.

Addressing the gathering, the minister recalled his association with V.V. Palem. He said N.T. Rama Rao had visited the village in 1982 and that lift irrigation works were taken up during his tenure. Development efforts, he said, had continued under successive governments.

Emphasising cleanliness, he called on residents to maintain hygienic surroundings in their localities. He directed the revenue divisional officer to conduct a comprehensive survey of government lands and identify suitable sites for housing for the poorest sections. Available government land, he said, should be utilised for rural infrastructure.

The minister said funds would be sanctioned for the development of the district veterinary hospital, which he noted had earned a reputation across neighbouring districts for its services. He asked officials to prepare proposals for pending works.

He also advised farmers to shift to alternative crops instead of depending on paddy and said livestock rearing could provide additional income.

Suda chairman Puvvalla Durgaprasad, Telangana State Warehousing Corporation chairman Rayala Nageswara Rao and officials from various departments attended the programme.
