Hyderabad: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Thursday informed that the tripartite agreement for sharing of land acquisition cost for Regional Ring Road (RRR) was yet to be signed.

This was stated by the Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in Lok Sabha while replying to a question raised by two BJP MPs from Telangana – DK Aruna and Eatala Rajender and a Congress MP Ch Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Gadkari said Telangana government has requested the Centre for sanction of RRR for Hyderabad and gave an undertaking to bear 50 per cent of the land acquisition cost of the project. The tripartite agreement for the sharing of land acquisition cost was yet to be signed. The alignment for the northern part of Hyderabad Regional Ring Road has been finalized, he said.

A request for sanction of the RRR at an estimated cost of Rs.34,367.62 crore has been received. The environment clearance for the Northern part of RRR was granted on March 18, 2025. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the southern part of RRR is in progress, and the project will be taken up based on the outcome of the DPR and inter-se priority of the work.

The Union Minister further stated that the development of national highways was a continuous process. The government keeps on receiving proposals from various State governments including from Telangana for declaration, upgradation and development of national highways.

“Decision for project implementation and investment is taken based on the outcome of DPR, requirement of connectivity, inter-se priority and synergy with PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan,” he explained.

In their question, the MPs sought to know whether the Telangana government has sent proposals for building RRR with a length of about 350 to ease traffic in and around Hyderabad and has agreed to contribute 50 percent of the land acquisition cost. They also wanted to know whether the Telangana government had signed a tripartite agreement and sent it to the Ministry.
