Hyderabad: The North Zone Regional Transport Authority (RTA) office at Trimulgherry in Secunderabad is set to be partially demolished to make way for an elevated corridor on Rajiv Rahadari.

The office, one of the busiest RTA facilities in the city, handles around 100 applications a day, with a majority relating to learning licences.

Transport department officials said a new building would come up on the same premises. The portions affected by the demolition include the main administrative block, fitness testing centre and high-security number plate storage room.

RTA operations will continue from the same compound until the new building is completed. Transport officials have sought additional time and funds from the state government to construct new facilities on adjacent government-owned land. A senior official said the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) would take up construction of the new building, which would provide the required facilities for the RTA.
