Visakhapatnam: Tribal welfare director Sada Bhargavi has clarified that the department is working in a planned and systematic manner to revive Government Order No. 3, describing it as a “panacea” for the development and welfare of tribal communities.

She was addressing a workshop on G.O. No. 3 and Agency laws at Paderu in ASR district on Tuesday, where she held an interactive session with tribal teachers’ associations, community leaders, and tribal organisations.

Bhargavi stated that efforts are underway to ensure 100 per cent reservation in jobs for tribals in scheduled areas, in accordance with the state government’s directive. As part of this process, public opinion polls were conducted in the Rampachodavaram and Parvathipuram Manyam ITDAs to gather views on the revival of the G.O.

She noted that responses are being collected in a prescribed pro forma and will be compiled into a report for submission to the government. “More than 4,000 jobs were secured by tribal candidates in the past because of G.O. No. 3,” she said.

ITDA in-charge project officer Dr M.J. Abhishek Gowda said the government had taken the initiative to bring back G.O. No. 3 with the aim of strengthening tribal welfare. He recalled that in 1986, G.O. No. 279 was issued to provide full reservation for tribals in jobs within scheduled areas.

Paderu MLA Matsyarasa Visveswara Raja, Araku MLA Regam Matsyalingam, MLC Kumbha Ravi Babu, and JAC convener Ramarao Dora also addressed the gathering and extended their support for the cause.
