Transport Department to Deploy AI, Electric Buses

Hyderabad:The state transport department is set to adopt technology and artificial intelligence to tackle traffic and transport issues. Sixty Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras will soon be installed across the city to monitor violations, while 2,200 electric buses will join the RTC Hyderabad fleet. Tax exemptions worth about Rs 1,400 crore for EVs have encouraged purchases, reducing pollution in the city.

Bus services have been introduced on 370 new routes in Hyderabad and villages, with plans to extend connectivity to underserved areas. Last‑mile connectivity will be strengthened through coordination between MMTS, Metro Rail and RTC services.
On autorickshaw drivers and gig workers, the minister said the government had responded positively to their demands. A welfare board for auto workers will be established, and a meeting will be held within a week to finalise the decision along with a fare hike. Proposals are also being prepared for introducing ‘yellow plates’ for bike taxis.
TGSRTC has procured 2,932 new buses since the government came to power. Of these, 1,024 electric buses are already operating successfully, with 2,200 more to be added soon. Retrofitting of 240 diesel buses is also planned.
