TIRUPATI: Three migrant workers from Annamayya district were killed and 15 others seriously injured when a jeep carrying agricultural labourers overturned near Srinivaspur in the Kolar district of Karnataka on Sunday night.

Police said the victims were residents of Poolakuntavaripalle village in Ramasamudram mandal. The group had travelled to Karnataka for agricultural work and were returning to their native place when the accident occurred. As the jeep reached the outskirts of Srinivaspur, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which skidded and overturned on the road.

Srinivasulu (25), Venkatamma (60) and Muneyya (65) sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. All three belonged to the same village, casting a pall of gloom over Poolakuntavaripalle. The deceased and the injured were engaged as agricultural labourers and had gone to Karnataka for tamarind harvesting, police said.

At the time of the accident, around 20 people were travelling in the jeep. Local residents, along with the police, shifted the injured to hospitals in Rayalapadu and Madanapalle for treatment. The condition of some of the injured is said to be serious. The local police have registered a case and taken up an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

Transport minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy expressed shock over the incident and conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased. He described the deaths as tragic and directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured. He also appealed to drivers and passengers to exercise caution to prevent such accidents.
