Hyderabad: A massive traffic jam was reported on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway near Abdullapurmet on Friday, as hundreds of motorists hit the road to their hometowns for the extended holiday break.
Vehicular movement slowed to a crawl from the Outer Ring Road (ORR) junction towards Vijayawada, with long queues of cars, buses, and trucks stretching for several kilometres. Commuters said they were stuck in the jam for over an hour in some stretches.
According to locals, ongoing road-widening works have narrowed the carriageway at key points, creating bottlenecks and forcing vehicles to move in single file.
