Traffic on Chityal, NH No. 76, Slows Down after Container Mishap
Hyderabad: The city roads leading from the Vijayawada highway were not as crowded as the police had anticipated, with those going to AP to celebrate Sankranti apparently phasing out their return to work.
Police, in coordination with the TSRTC, have been closely monitoring the return traffic following the conclusion of the Sankranti festivities.
According to Rachakonda Traffic DCP D. Srinivas, “The return dates of many people were spread out from Friday to Sunday, contributing to a more manageable flow of traffic.”
“The traffic situation is expected to remain calm due to the staggered return of travellers. With a possibility of employees applying for a couple of more days of leave, the return trip will extends till Sunday.”
On the highway, however, the toll plazas at Panthangi and Korlaphad experienced a surge in vehicles though no traffic jams were reported.
At 6.30 am, the Korlaphad toll plaza faced a traffic jam of half a kilometre when the FASTag servers went down. Authorities managed to restore the FASTag system within 10 minutes.
Panthangi toll plaza operated 16 gates, and Korlaphad 13. Depending on the rush, toll plaza authorities may decide to open additional gates for the Vijayawada-Hyderabad route on NH No. 65.
Additionally, Chityal on NH No. 76 experienced a four-km-long traffic jam on both the Hyderabad-Vijayawada and Vijayawada-Hyderabad routes after a container fell under a road overbridge.
Nalgonda DSP Shiva Ram Reddy and oversaw the operation to remove the container using a crane, which took approximately half an hour.
