Traffic Constable Booked for Marrying Minor Girl in Suryapet

Nalgonda: A 28-year-old traffic constable allegedly married a 16-year-old girl at Sitaramanagar in Huzurnagar mandal in violation of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, police said on Wednesday.
The case was registered against Nayani Anil Kumar, who was attached to the Yadagirigutta police station. Police said his whereabouts and those of the minor girl were not known after the case was filed.
Suryapet district child protection officer B. Ravi Kumar said an ICDS supervisor received information that Anil Kumar had married the minor girl on May 9. After verifying the information, the supervisor lodged a complaint with the Huzurnagar police.
Police said Anil Kumar is a native of Sitaramanagar, while the girl belongs to Palaram village in Ananthagiri mandal. Family elders had allegedly arranged the marriage, which was performed in the presence of close relatives. Based on the complaint, police registered a case against Anil Kumar under provisions of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and launched a search for him and the girl.
