Tradition Marks Celebrations on Bakrid
Telangana Waqf Board chairman Syed Azmatullah Husseni said, “This is the festival of sacrifice. Telangana reflects the brotherly love between all the religions. Even on this day, we have seen all together greeting. This is the real spirit of our state.”
Hyderabad: Hyderabad marked Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) with congregational prayers held early morning at major venues, including Mir Alam Idgah, Makkah Masjid, and Idgah Qutb Shahi Heritage Park. Worshippers, dressed in traditional attire, exchanged greetings following sermons at mosques and Idgahs.
The festival, centred on the ritual of Qurbani, involved the sacrifice of sheep and goats, with a portion of the meat distributed among the needy in keeping with its core tenets. Families participated in celebrations across the city, with newly married couples marking the occasion with visits to relatives.
For Syed Asaduddin and Umeama Fatima, the festival was their first after marriage. Asaduddin said, “By offering Id salah at the Indo Arab Mosque, where the atmosphere of prayer, unity, and faith was truly inspiring. After returning home, the sacrifice was carried out smoothly, and the entire day was enriched with joy, family gatherings, and heartfelt moments. My parents and my sisters spent time sharing meals, taking pictures, and enjoying beautiful conversations together. As for us newlywedded, we have to visit a lot of relatives, greet them and take their blessings.”
Livestock markets across areas such as Golnaka, Attapur, Ziyaguda, Barkas, Moula Ali, Dhar-ul-Shifa and Chengicharla saw brisk trade, with traders arriving from across Telangana as well as Karnataka and Maharashtra. In several locations, well-bred cattle were sold through auctions.
