Top Maoist Hemla Hints at Giving Up

Hyderabad:Hemla Vijja alias Aitu, who served as member of the Maoist divisional committee in south Bastar of Chhattisgarh and top military wing incharge of PGLA battalion-1, along with 23 PGLA cadres on Wednesday hinted before the Telangana police of laying down their arms.

Hemla, whom the intelligence agencies believe, is the last survivor of the PLGA battalion-1 in the south Bastar division (SBD) of Chhattisgarh, and he was instrumental in leading the multiple armed operations in the SBD and different parts of Telangana. He was said to be the only in the PGLA’s military wing to handle supply logistics during operations and acted as key liaison with CPI(Maoist), the banned outfit.

For the past two decades, Hemla as strategist carried out multiple attacks on security forces, which resulted in significant casualties.

Top ranking officials confirmed Deccan Chronicle that the Maoists have given indication to surrender before the Telangana police and details would be shared soon with the media after the start of the formal process.

Recently, senior Maoist leader Sodhi Kesha, who was the second-in-command, belonging to the same battalion, had surrendered before the authorities, subsequently Hemla approached Telangana police, expressing willingness to lay down arms, sources said.
