The incident occurred in the morning when the bus stand was crowded with passengers. The electricity fuse box caught fire due to a short circuit, prompting RTC staff to act swiftly and alert passengers to move away from the spot. The bus stand was soon filled with thick smoke, causing panic among the passengers.
RTC drivers and conductors present at the bus stand brought the fire under control using fire extinguishers. The intensity of the fire could have increased had they waited for the arrival of firefighting vehicles.
On receiving information, fire personnel rushed to the bus stand and inspected the spot. Electricity department officials took up repair works to restore power supply to the bus stand. Bus services from the Yellandu bus stand resumed after the smoke cleared.
