HYDERABAD: Even as a sub-adult male tiger has been keeping foresters guessing on its next move in Yadadri-Bhongir district, another tiger was spotted near Mannanur village in Achampet village of Nagarkurnool district along the busy national highway leading from Hyderabad to Srisailam.
The tiger was spotted moving near the forest area close to the well-known ruins of the Prataparudra fort on a hillock close to the village. The forest on both sides of the highway where the tiger was sighted by some passersby on Monday night, forms part of the core of the Amrabad tiger reserve.
Tiger reserve officials said that during the recent All India Tiger Estimation, the pugmarks of a tiger and a leopard were seen in the area comprising the fort’s ruins and the spot where the tiger was seen on Monday evening was close to this location. There is a temple and a dargah in the vicinity of the location were the tiger was spotted and officials have alerted people to be in the open after sundown.
“Since the tiger has been moving around in the area and has now come close to the road, we have deployed patrol vehicles on the highway. The area is now being monitored and people in the two nearby villages too have been alerted to the possible movement of the tiger in their areas,” a tiger reserve official said.
