An ambulance driver recorded the tiger’s movement near the crematorium at Srirampur RK-8 mine, and the video went viral on social media on Thursday.
Adilabad: With a tiger seen moving in the coal mines area in Sirirampur in Mancherial, the Singareni management has asked second- and third-shift workers to stay alert while going to their workplace.
The mine is located in a forest, and workers have to travel through a small road to reach the mine to attend duties even at night. Forest staff asked the workers to move in groups instead of individually to avoid tiger attacks.
An ambulance driver recorded the tiger’s movement near the crematorium at Srirampur RK-8 mine, and the video went viral on social media on Thursday. Forest officials responded to the incident and deployed animal trackers to locate the tiger and alert workers to avoid human-animal conflict.
Forest staff are fixing camera traps to trees to track the tiger’s movement. The estate officer of RK 8 of the Singareni area asked security guards to be alert since a tiger was moving between RK 5 and RK 8 mines.
It is said that the tiger might have entered the coal mine areas from the Chennur, Kotapalli, and Nennala areas, and that the same tiger was crossing the river Pranahita and entering the Kagaznagar Forest Division.
Another tiger is also moving between Kasipet and Bellampalli and has been found in the Goleti and Rebbenna forest areas before returning to the Kagaznagar forest division.
Local forest staff said that two to three tigers are moving in the area and that these tigers migrated into the region from bordering Maharashtra in search of mates, as winter is the mating season.
It is said that last year, migrating tigers also moved into the coal mines area, but they returned to their original habitat in Maharashtra after the end of the season.
Local forest staff are making all-out efforts this season to retain them and make them resident tigers, with the possibility of mating male and female tigers and the birth of cubs.
S. Shantharam, field director of the Kawal Tiger Reserve, confirmed the tigers’ movement in Mancherial district to the media and said that measures were being taken for their safety and security. He said that every evening, officials report the tigers’ movement to the Tiger Monitoring Centre set up in Hyderabad.
