Tiger Kills Cow in Kodimyala, Officials on High Alert
Villagers worried as no tiger was spotted in area for 3 decades
Karimnagar: Forest department officials are on high alert after a tiger attacked a cow on the outskirts of Kondapur village, in Kodimyala mandal. Local residents are worried as the tiger was spotted near the Chandurthi-Kodimyala forest region, which lies between the districts of Jagtial and Rajanna Sircilla.
The Kodimyala forest spans 40,000 acres and has not recorded any large tiger sightings in the past three decades. The sudden emergence of a tiger in this area, culminating in the fatal attack on the cow, has left villagers apprehensive about their safety.
Forest officials issued alerts to residents of nearby villages, including Kondapur, Ramakrishnapur, Surampet, Narsingapur, Thimmapur, Ashireddipally, Ramannapeta, Chandurthi, and Malyala. Authorities told villagers to be cautious, particularly when tending to their fields. Additional CCTV cameras have been installed in the affected areas.
Preliminary analysis of CCTV footage suggests that the animal involved is a male tiger. Officials suspect that it may be one of the tigers previously sighted in the Sirpur Kagaznagar area (identified as S12) or in the Mulugu-Bhupalpally forest region (identified as S8).
Under the leadership of forest range officers Khaleeluddin and Mohiyuddin, search operations have started in the Chandurthi-Kodimyala forest area. The teams are tracking the tiger’s footprints, especially near water sources that tigers frequent at night.
Forest range officers advised villagers to be vigilant, especially after dark, when tiger activity is more prevalent. Farmers have been urged to remove electric fences if they have been set up for crop protection to prevent potential tiger encounters. Additionally, shepherds and other community members have been warned to stay alert and report any sightings of the tiger immediately to the authorities.
