Heavy rains lash Hyderabad
Heavy rains and gusty winds disrupt traffic; IMD issues alerts for Hyderabad and Telangana districts
Hyderabad: Following Thursday’s rain, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rainfall over the next few days, with a drop in temperatures by 2-4°C expected. Thursday saw rain providing much-needed relief from the scorching summer heat.
According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), several parts of Hyderabad recorded significant rainfall. The highest rainfall was reported at GHMC head office in Himayatnagar, at 91 mm, followed by Malakpet (90 mm), Saroornagar (89.5 mm), Goshamahal (88 mm) and Musheerabad (87.8 mm).
The IMD has issued an orange alert for the districts of Adilabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad and Kamareddy, warning of possible hailstorms.
Additionally, a yellow alert has been placed for Jagtial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla, Nalgonda, Yadadri Bhongir, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri, cautioning residents of expected thunderstorms and strong winds.
The cumulative average rainfall for the GHMC area was recorded at 41.2 mm, with a current hourly rainfall average of 2 mm, indicating continued showers. The highest cumulative rainfall was noted in Saroor Nagar (89.5 mm), followed by Malakpet (76.8 mm) and Secunderabad (73.5 mm).
The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has predicted that rain will continue across multiple districts, including Medak, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Mahabubnagar and Hyderabad. The showers are expected to persist until Sunday, with intermittent thunderstorms and lightning.
Meteorologists expect a gradual drop in temperatures over the next four days. While the maximum temperature is likely to decrease slightly today, a more noticeable reduction of 2-4°C is predicted between Friday and Sunday. IMD advised residents to take necessary precautions and stay updated on weather alerts issued by the authorities.
