Three Held for Chain-Snatching in Korutla
Korutla police arrested three members of an inter-district gang for allegedly cheating a 70-year-old woman into removing her gold chain on the pretext of increasing her pension.
Korutla police have arrested three members of an inter-district chain-snatching gang for allegedly cheating an elderly woman and stealing her gold chain.
The accused were identified as Allepu Krishna, Kunchepu Srikanth and Allepu Rajkumar, all residents of Prashanth Nagar in Siddipet.
According to the police, the trio arrived in Korutla on July 15 and stayed in a lodge before allegedly committing the offence the following day.
Police said the accused approached a 70-year-old woman at the Korutla bus stand and allegedly told her they could help increase her pension from `2,000 to `4,000.
They then allegedly took her near a bank and persuaded her to remove her gold chain, claiming it would not be possible to process the pension enhancement if she was wearing jewellery. The accused allegedly left the spot after telling her they would return with the required forms.
Based on the victim’s complaint, police registered a case and arrested the accused at a lodge. A 24-gram gold chain and two mobile phones were recovered from their possession, police said.
