Hyderabad:Madannapet police on Sunday detained three persons for allegedly throwing meat when a religious procession was passing through the area. Police rushed to the spot, deployed additional forces and took control of the situation, Charminar DCP Kiran Khare said. The three persons were residents of the seventh floor of an apartment. “We are verifying with eyewitnesses and examining CCTV camera footage,” DCP Khare said.

The incident took place at around 3 pm and briefly led to tension in the area. Khare said the police had received a complaint from the organisers of the procession, and said appropriate legal action would on the complaint and findings of the preliminary inquiry. The three persons after inquiry would be booked for disturbing communal harmony, hurting religious sentiments, police sources disclosed.

DCP Khare appreciated members of both communities for cooperating with the police to maintain law and order. He warned of strict action against people who deliberately spread false information or attempt to create communal tension in connection with the incident. Authorities have asked residents to rely only on information released through official channels and to cooperate with the police during the investigation.
