Power demand has increased gradually over the last month across the state, driven mainly by farmers using pumpsets extensively as the monsoon rain has been delayed.

Officials were watching the trend closely as electricity use climbed during the peak hours. Increased demand was also noticed from households, commercial establishments and industries.

As per the latest data from the state load dispatch centre of the Transmission Corporation of Telangana Ltd, the two discoms had seen unrestricted peak power demand reaching 16,650 MW on July 16 against 11,834 MW a month ago on June 16.

As against 11,395 MW on July 5, demand rose rose to 13,458 MW on July 7; 13,713 MW on July 9; 14,934 MW on July 11 and 16,270 MW on July 14. With field-level consumption staying strong and rainfall still deficient, the discoms have been facing sustained load pressure in several districts.

Officials said the discoms had been taking measures to ensure uninterrupted supply and were monitoring feeders and transformers regularly.
