Centre Bolsters Telangana Coop Banks with Funds, NPA Action Plans
Telangana's rural cooperative banks operate 445 branches with Rs 165.64 crore deposits, while 48 UCBs have 35 branches holding Rs 10,198 crore.
Hyderabad: Union minister of state for finance Pankaj Chaudhary informed Parliament that the Centre had released Rs 2,000 crore to the Telangana Cooperative Bank via National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) to strengthen the cooperative sector.
Responding to a question by Medak MP M. Raghunandan Rao, Chaudhary detailed measures including Nabard and RBI oversight for banks with over 10 per cent non-performing assets, mandating time-bound action plans and boards of management for urban cooperative banks (UCBs).
The UCBs — other than those having deposit size less than Rs 100 crore and salary earners’ banks — are required to constitute a board of management (BoM) to facilitate professional management and focused attention to their banking-related activities, he said

Chaudhary noted three fraud cases in rural banks during FY 2024-25, with supervisory actions taken. A high-level committee monitors financial health quarterly, ensuring whistleblower mechanisms and risk-based audits.
