TGSPDCL To Install 6,500 Pole-Mounted Transformers In 2026
The initiative prioritises public safety and environmental cleanliness, as locals often dump waste near ground-level transformers: Reports
HYDERABAD: The Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) has set
a target of installing 6,500 pole-mounted distribution transformers across the state in 2026. These compact units mount directly on power poles requiring no ground space — unlike traditional transformers that need 30-35 square feet. The initiative prioritises public safety and environmental
cleanliness, as locals often dump waste near ground-level transformers.
Listing key priorities for the coming year and achievements in 2025, TGSPDCL chairman and managing director Musharraf Faruqui highlighted the replacement of hazardous overhead lines with insulated Aerial Bunched (AB) cables in narrow lanes. Under the ‘Karantolla Praja Bata’ programme, staff replaced 800 kilometres of lines this year. Hands-on involvement from the CMD, directors,
senior officers and field staff addressed micro-level issues, ensuring reliable power supply.
Faruqui noted that TGSPDCL has already installed 150 pole-mounted transformers this year out of 304 such locations identified. The company augmented its network with 7,531 new distribution transformers and 291 power transformers. It also plans to complete 97 new 33/11 kV substations by the end of the current financial year.
