Hyderabad:  Residents staged a protest against Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) Chairman and managing director Musharraf Faruqui when he visited Gokulnagar to enquire into Saturday’s fatal electrocution incident.

Angry locals shouted slogans and blaming the electricity department for negligence, citing repeated complaints about dangling wires in the locality. They demanded accountability for the incident in which five people died during the Sri Krishna Janmashtami Shobha Yatra.

Officials told Faruqui that the accident occurred when an unused TV cable stretched between two buildings snapped and fell on an 11 KV overhead line, transmitting current to the iron-frame chariot. They said the line itself was more than 20 feet high and fitted with AB cable, insisting the cable connecting the buildings was the primary cause.

Faruqui assured action against those found responsible and ordered a detailed probe by Habsiguda Superintendent Engineer Prathima.

Meanwhile, members of the Yadav community, political leaders and the victims’ families staged protests at Gokulnagar and on Ramanthapur main road. Relatives refused to conduct the last rites until police persuasion finally led them to proceed to the graveyard.
