TGHRC Takes Suo-Motu Cognizance of Abandoning Elderly Person in Shamshabad

Hyderabad: The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) Chairperson Dr. Justice Shameem Akther has taken a suo-motu cognizance of a vernacular newspaper report regarding the destitute condition of senior citizen Dappu Mallaiah, allegedly abandoned and dispossessed by his children and living on a footpath under Rallaguda flyover in Shamshabad.
Noting prima facie violation of the right to life with dignity under Article 21 of the Constitution and the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act-2007, the Commission directed the Collector, Ranga Reddy District, to submit a detailed factual report and ensure immediate shelter, food, medical care, protection, and humanitarian assistance to the senior citizen.
The Commission posted the matter for January 19, 2026 at 11 am, according to a press release.
