TGHRC Seeks Report From Hyderabad CP After Alleged Police Harassment Victim Attempts Suicide
The HRC took the matter seriously after the woman attempted to die by suicide in front of the commission office in Nampally on Tuesday morning.
The Telangana Human Rights Commission, presided over by Justice Dr Shameem Akther, on Tuesday took cognisance of a complaint alleging police excess by personnel of Gandhinagar police station, wherein the complainant, a woman, alleged that she was physically assaulted, verbally abused in derogatory language, and threatened in connection with a suspected theft case, causing severe mental distress and humiliation.
The HRC took the matter seriously after the woman attempted to die by suicide in front of the commission office in Nampally on Tuesday morning. The victim, a resident of Kavadiguda, told the media, said that she was being harassed by the Gandhinagar police. Nampally police rushed to the scene, stopped her and took her to the commission.
Noting the seriousness of the allegations, including the circulation of her photograph affecting her dignity and her subsequent suicide attempt, the commission recommended, under Section 18(c) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, that the commissioner of police, Hyderabad city, ensure that no further harassment is caused to the complainant and submit a detailed report, while also directing communication of the order to concerned police authorities, with the matter posted for further consideration on April 30.
Missing Yakutpura Residential School Student Traced; Principal, Staff Suspended for Negligence
A 15-year-old student who went missing from a Telangana Minorities Residential School in Yakutpura on April 6 was traced within hours in Hyderabad, even as the government ordered the suspension of the principal, duty teacher and security staff over lapses in supervision.
The eighth-class student, was last seen between 9 am and 10 am after leaving the school campus at Talabkatta. A missing case was registered at Bhavaninagar police station after his family failed to locate him throughout the day.
According to the complaint, the student had gone to his grandmother’s house in Doodhbowli in the morning. By evening, the school confirmed he was not on campus. This prompted a search by family members and a police complaint.
The incident led to criticism online where questions raised on whether the residential school flagged his absence in time and whether basic safety checks were followed.
Officials said the matter was taken up immediately under the supervision of minister Mohammed Azharuddin. Police and Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society authorities traced the boy within a short span. Authorities have ordered a detailed inquiry and issued instructions to all institutions on accountability and vigilance.
Serial Interstate Burglar from West Bengal Arrested in Hyderabad; 6 Cases Solved
Khairatabad zone police said they had solved multiple theft cases in the city with the arrest of Hafijul Sheikh, 37, a native of South 24 Parganas in West Bengal, on Tuesday. He was apprehended near the Secunderabad railway station while planning another offence.
Police said Sheikh targeted locked houses during the day, breaking open locks and decamping with gold ornaments and cash. He was involved in at least six recent cases in the city, including two in Narayanguda, three in Kukatpally and one in Sanathnagar. Police said he also has a criminal history in Delhi and Kolkata and was jailed for previous offences.
The arrest led to the detection of two house burglary cases reported on March 30. In these incidents, the accused allegedly stole gold ornaments and cash worth around ₹2 lakh from houses in Narayanguda and Himayathnagar. Police teams cracked the case using CCTV footage analysis and technical evidence.
Worker electrocuted at Vanasthalipuram
Boggula Nagaraju of Wanaparthy, a 41-year-old construction worker, was electrocuted and his colleague Mallayya was injured at a construction site in Indiramma Colony, Vanasthalipuram police said. Mallayya is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Manneguda.
The incident occurred while a group of workers was engaged in slab work at a house belonging to Boyiga Anjaiah. Their slab lifting machine came into contact with an 11 KV high-tension power line. Police said negligence on the part of site supervisors, including the machine operator, led to the accident. A case was registered against the house owner, the mason and the machine operator. Investigation is underway to determine lapses in safety measures.
Farmer, son found dead in well
Tragedy struck a farmer’s family in Santapur under Keshampet police limits of Rangareddy district, when a distraught father ended his life after failing to trace his missing 11‑year‑old son. Police later found both bodies in the same well.
According to Keshampet station house officer B. Narahari, T. Yadaiah, 40, a farmer, was distressed over his eldest son Kannaiah going missing since April 4. On Monday, Yadaiah’s younger sister Sadula Usha lodged a complaint stating Yadaiah had searched for his son before dying by suicide in the fields.
Yadaiah’s wife Sarita said: “My husband was very sad as he loved Kannaiah deeply. Both used to work together in the fields. He left home at 1.20 pm. Neighbours told us he was crying, calling for Kannaiah.”
Police said CCTV footage showed Kannaiah playing in the fields. He is believed to have accidentally fallen into the unfenced 20‑foot‑deep well near his father’s room. Yadaiah, a native of Tirupati, was working on Mohd Rafiq’s farmland and residing in a small room on the premises.
Kannaiah, the eldest of four sons, was living with his grandmother Bharatamma and was to be admitted to a hostel in Keshampet for Class VI in the coming academic year, his aunt Savatri said.
A search operation with the fire department led to recovery of both bodies, which were shifted to the government hospital mortuary in Rangareddy. Preliminary investigation revealed the boy died after accidentally falling into the well, and the father, distraught, committed suicide.
Police registered a case of suspicious death under Crime No. 70 of 2026, Section 194 BNSS. After post‑mortem, the bodies were handed over to family members for last rites. “It was an unfortunate incident. We appeal to villagers to pay special attention to their children and take care to avoid such accidents,” SHO Narahari said.
20 booked for cell phone driving
City traffic police booked 20 violators in a special enforcement drive against mobile phone use while driving at DMRL Junction on Tuesday.
The drive specifically targeted commuters using phones while driving, Mohammed Asif, SHO Traffic, Santoshnagar police station, said.
During the operation, cases were booked against eight individuals for cell phone driving and 12 others for various traffic rule violations, Asif added.
Violators were counselled by officers on the severe risks of distracted driving. Senior traffic officials explained, “Life is far more precious than a phone call. Distracted driving poses a high threat of fatal accidents to both the driver and other road users. If a call is urgent, they must safely pull over to the side of the road before attending to it,” said D. Joel Davis, joint commissioner, City Traffic Police.
Violators were informed they would be produced before court for further legal action and punishment. Davis warned that such special enforcement drives will continue regularly to ensure public safety and improve traffic discipline. He urged citizens to adhere to road safety regulations for their own well‑being.
The drive was conducted under the direction of D. Joel Davis and will continue for the safety and security of commuters and passers‑by, a senior officer said.
Youth loses finger in stray dog attack in Warangal
A stray dog went on a rampage in Kalleda village of Parvathagiri mandal in Warangal district on Tuesday, injuring several people and leaving a youth grievously maimed.
Chirutha Sathish suffered the worst injuries when the dog attacked him while he was walking alone, biting his hand and severing the ring finger of his left hand. The animal fled with the finger and later dropped it on the village outskirts. Locals recovered it, and doctors are assessing the possibility of reattachment.
Several other villagers were also bitten, triggering panic and a rush to the local government hospital. All victims are undergoing anti-rabies treatment and are under observation. Residents expressed anger over the rising stray dog menace and urged authorities to immediately capture the animal to prevent further attacks.
Korutla youth drowns at Karnataka’s waterfalls
Tragedy struck Ayyappa Gutta area of Korutla town in Jagtial district after a 25-year-old youth drowned while swimming at Vibhuti waterfalls in Karnataka on Monday. The deceased was identified as Ajay Goud, who had returned from Dubai just 10 days ago.
According to reports, Ajay had gone on a trip to Karnataka with two friends from Hyderabad. The incident occurred when he entered the water for a swim while his friends were recording videos. Despite being a good swimmer, he was caught in deep waters and strong undercurrents.
Witnesses said Ajay struggled to stay afloat and was pulled under by the force of the water. His friends tried to rescue him, but the heavy flow hindered their efforts. Authorities later launched a search operation. The news of his death left his family and residents in shock, with locals gathering to console the bereaved family.
Hyderabad Court Awards 22-Year RI to Manohar in Minor Assault Case Under POCSO & SC/ST Acts
The XII Additional Sessions Court, Nampally, on Tuesday sentenced Sangam Manohar, 20, to 22 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case registered under the Pocso and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) laws registered by the Chaderghat police. He was convicted of repeatedly sexually assaulting a minor.
According to the officials, the accused lured the victim under the guise of love and sexually assaulted her multiple times. He also filmed obscene videos and circulated them among her relatives, while issuing threats to silence the family.
The court also imposed a fine of ₹5,000 on Manohar and ordered a compensation of ₹5 lakh to the victim.

ACB Nabs PJTAU Associate Dean Red-Handed Taking ₹1 Lakh Bribe for Seed License
Mantani Govardhan, associate dean at the Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh from a seed company. Following this, ACB officials began searches at the agriculture college in Rajendranagar and Govardhan's house in LB Nagar, the bureau said in a press release. Govardhan has been.
According to ACB DSP Gangasani Sridhar, the victim had applied for a seed company licence in March last year. With no licence in site, victim approached associate dean Govardhan who allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹1.25 to get the license through his contacts at the Seed Corporation.
The victim first transferred ₹25,000 to Govardhan's assistant through UPI. The official then allegedly moved the file and asked for the remaining sum. The victim then approached the ACB City Range Unit 2, which conducted the raids which led to Govardhan’s arrest.
Three, Including Two Senior Citizens, Die by Suicide in Separate Incidents in Hyderabad
Two senior citizens, one of them over 80 years of age, died by suicide in the city, police said on Tuesday.
Gachibowli police said 82-year-old Nelakonda Madhusudhan Rao died at his apartment at Kondapur at about 3.30 am on Tuesday. Citing a complaint filed by his brother, police said Rao was reportedly depressed. He was survived by two daughters who live abroad. On Monday night, he had spent time at a temple before returning home late. Police registered a case and are investigating.
Separately, Jubilee Hills police said an apparent accident where a 62-year-old man, Binappa of Mahbubnagar district, was run by a bus turned to be a case of suicide. Police after examining CCTV footage determined the case of death to be suicide.
Elsewhere, 30-year-old businessman Metla Venkata Krishna Sri Sai died by suicide at his residence in My Home Mangala Apartments, police said. The deceased had sent a message to his family members earlier in the day indicating his intention to end his life. His family rushed to his flat and forced open the door and found him dead. His marriage was scheduled for April 12, and police suspect mental or financial stress as a possible reason.
LB Nagar POCSO Court Sentences 23-Year-Old to Life Imprisonment for Raping Minor
The LB Nagar Fast Track Special Court for Posco cases on Tuesday sentenced a 23-year-old Mohammad Akram to life imprisonment in a rape case registered by the Balapur police. He had lured a minor, then aged 16, and sexually assaulted her multiple times. The victim’s relative saw Akram assaulting her and filed a case with the Balapur police. The accused was apprehended during the subsequent probe. The court also imposed a fine of ₹13,000 on Akram and directed compensation payment of `4 lakh to the victim.
Police said inspector B. Bhaskar, who investigated the case, and the prosecution team including additional public prosecutor P. Satyanarayana played a key role in securing the conviction.
Raids on gas refilling unit, spa
Vanasthalipuram police on Tuesday registered two cases after conducting raids on a shop and a spa found violating the law. In the first case, officials raided Mahadev Home Appliances near Sushma Theatre while illegal gas refilling was underway. Three domestic cylinders, 20 small cylinders and a gas filling rod were seized. The shop owner, Surendra, and employee, Abhishek, were booked for carrying out the activity without authorisation. A case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
In another incident, police raided Orion Wellness Spa at Sainath Colony after receiving information that it was operating in violation of government norms. The spa lacked a valid trade licence, failed to maintain customer records, and employed therapists without certification. The staff identified the owner as Raju. Police seized the spa’s register and shifted those present to the station for questioning. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
ACB Nabs Shamshabad Airport SI, CI for Demanding ₹15 Lakh Bribe in Fake Passport Case
The ACB said it had booked Shamshabad airport police station outpost circle inspector Kanakaiah and sub-inspector Siddeshwar who had allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹15 lakh from a criminal case accused to file the chargesheet quickly.
ACB DSP Anand Kumar said that the victim of the bribe demand was a person from Kerala who had been earlier caught at the airport with a fake passport. He had been arrested and sent to remand. Subsequently released on bail, he is required to report at the police station every Sunday.
The ACB said SI Siddeshwar asked him to give ₹15 lakh to file the chargesheet quickly. When the victim said he did not have the money, the police officer allegedly threatened to implicate his family members in the case. The victim then approached to the ACB which stepped in. ACB DSP Anand Kumar caught SI Siddeshwar red-handed while taking ₹2 lakhs at the airport police station outpost. DSP Anand said that since CI Kanakaiah was involved in this case, he was also detained. A case was registered against both of them and investigations were being carried out.
